Is Dingle Grove as clean-scrubbed as people believe?
When an elderly man disappears, Audrey the bloodhound finds him digging in an open field. Alice Tricklebank signals her dog the hunt is complete, but Audrey lies down nearby, her jaw flat against the earth, and Alice recognizes the expression in her dog’s eyes – the sad look more intense than the one Audrey reserves for dead squirrels and night crawlers. Alice and Lena find themselves snooping into the lives of residents of Dingle Grove, unearthing long-buried secrets.
